Perth Suburbs Score Big Petrol Savings While Melbourne Feels the Pinch

Right, so fuel prices have been all over the shop this week, and I reckon you'll wanna hear about this one. If you're in Perth or anywhere in Western Australia, there's some good news at the servo. But if you're in Melbourne or the northern suburbs, mate, you might wanna fill up sooner rather than later.

Perth's Southern Suburbs Are Doing the Right Thing

Here's the thing, right. Motorists out in Maddington are saving a packet today with unleaded dropping nearly 25 cents overnight. We're talking 175.3 cents per litre now, down from nearly 200 cents. That's a fair dinkum saving if you've got a decent sized tank. On a 60 litre fill, you're looking at keeping almost $15 in your pocket instead of handing it over to the servo.

Baldivis is another spot worth keeping an eye on, with ULP sitting at 180.3 cents after dropping about 21 cents. And over in Mandurah, premium 95 has come down by close to 19 cents too. Now, you'd be mad not to top up if you're out that way anyway.

The cheap diesel story is even better across WA. Bassendean is coming in at 171.3 cents average, Byford the same, and Forrestfield at 172.9 cents. For the tradies running utes and vans, those prices are pretty solid.

Melbourne's Northern Suburbs Cop It

Meanwhile, things aren't looking quite as rosy for motorists in Victoria. Broadmeadows has seen ULP jump up by about 18 cents to 188.4 cents average. Not great timing heading into the weekend.

Rosebud down on the peninsula has copped it even worse, with unleaded climbing nearly 25 cents to over 200 cents per litre. Premium 95 and 98 have both gone up substantially there too. If you're planning a trip down to the beach this weekend, fill up before you leave.

The diesel picture in Victoria shows some variation too. Craigieburn is up 18 cents to 190.9 cents, and Bendigo has jumped over 17 cents. But regional towns like Wendouree near Ballarat are showing some of the cheapest diesel around at 165.2 cents if you shop around.

Where to Find the Best Deals Today

If you're hunting for cheap diesel, here's the rundown:

Western Australia

Victoria

New South Wales

The Bottom Line

The price spread across the country right now is pretty wild. In NSW you're seeing diesel anywhere from 167.9 to 269.9 cents depending on where you fill up. That's over a dollar difference! Victoria has a similar spread from 165 to 250 cents.

Worth remembering that regional areas aren't always more expensive. Some of the cheapest spots today are actually outside the major cities. Towns like Timboon, Bright, and Portland in regional Victoria are all competitive with metro prices.

Look, end of the day, a bit of planning means more cash in your pocket for the important stuff. Use the interactive fuel map to check prices before you head out, and don't just stop at the first servo you see. The savings add up over a year, fair dinkum.
