NSW Has a 107 Cent Diesel Gap and Western Sydney Is on the Right Side of It

Right, so here's something that'll make your head spin. The difference between the cheapest and most expensive diesel in NSW right now is 107 cents a litre. That's not a typo. Some servo out there is charging 269.9 cents while Ingleburn has diesel sitting at 162.5. If you're filling a 70 litre tank, that gap is worth about 75 bucks. You could buy a decent slab for that.

The NSW state average has jumped 7.4 cents overnight to 187.3 cents a litre as of this morning, 4th March 2026. That's the biggest overnight move of any state in the country right now. But here's the thing. The average doesn't tell you much when the spread is this wide. What matters is which servos you're going to.

Western Sydney knows the deal

If you're anywhere in the south west, you're laughing. Ingleburn is the pick of the bunch at 162.5 cents for the cheapest servo, which is nearly 25 cents under the state average. Five stations to choose from too, so you're not stuck waiting in line at one place.

Fairfield is right there with it at 164.5 cents cheapest across four servos. The suburb average is about 172 cents, which means all the stations there are doing the right thing. Greenacre also has a servo at 164.5, but be careful because the most expensive one there is pushing 193.9. Nearly 30 cents difference within one suburb. Worth checking before you pull in.

Smithfield continues to be solid at 169.5 cents cheapest, with all three servos sitting within 10 cents of each other. That's the kind of tight pricing you want to see. No one getting too creative with the boards.

Over in Granville, all three stations are locked in at exactly 174.9 cents. When servos match each other like that, it usually means the price has settled. Could be a good time to fill up before the next round of increases.

More options across Sydney

Liverpool has diesel from 170.9 cents if you shop around, and Yagoona is showing 175.9 at its cheapest. Even Marsden Park out in the growth corridor is at 174.9 for the best price, which isn't bad for a newer area.

Regional NSW holding up

Fair dinkum, the country towns are putting up decent numbers too. Blayney out past Bathurst is averaging 176.6 cents, and Gunnedah up in the north west is at 176.5 cheapest across four stations. For regional servos that usually cop a transport premium, those numbers are pretty respectable.

Down the coast, Port Kembla near Wollongong is sitting at 174.9 cheapest. Worth knowing if you're heading south and need to top up.

How NSW compares nationally

Western Australia has the cheapest state diesel average at 184.9 cents, with Victoria at 186.2 and NSW at 187.3. Tasmania is up at 191.0 and the Northern Territory remains in its own league at 237.6, though remote servos drag that figure up.

But here's what stands out. NSW has a 107 cent spread between cheapest and dearest. Victoria's gap is 80.7 and WA is 80.8. What that means is there's more money to be saved in NSW than anywhere else in the country, just by knowing where to fill up.

The bottom line

Look, with the state average jumping 7.4 cents in one day and sitting at 187.3, things could keep moving. But the western Sydney suburbs are still holding well under 170 and that's where the smart money is.

If you're due for a fill, today's probably better than tomorrow. Ingleburn, Fairfield, Smithfield and Liverpool are all well under the state average. A bit of planning means more cash in your pocket for the important stuff. Can't argue with that.
