Western Sydney Servos Lead the Pack as NSW Diesel Drops 8 Cents Overnight
Right, so I've been keeping an eye on the bowsers around my way this week, and there's finally a bit of good news if you're running a diesel. As of 2:09pm AEST on the 9th of June 2026, New South Wales diesel has come down 8.4 cents overnight, with the state average sliding from 220.1 to 211.7 cents a litre. For a sparky like me filling the ute every few days, that's the sort of move you actually feel in the back pocket.
Where the cheap diesel's hiding
Here's the thing, right. The cheapest diesel in the whole state isn't tucked away in some country town you'll never drive through. It's sitting right here in my own backyard. Greenacre is out in front with diesel as low as 179.7, averaging around 183.8 across the suburb. Just up the road, Smithfield servos are doing the right thing too, cheapest at 181.5 and barely four cents between the dearest and the cheapest. Fairfield is in the same ballpark at 182.5, and Yagoona drivers are looking at 189.5. That's the lowest I've seen around here in a good few weeks, and it's no accident. When you've got that many servos within a few minutes of each other, they keep one another honest, and us locals are the ones who win.
You'd be mad not to pay attention to numbers like that. The state high today is up near 345 cents at a few of the dodgier spots, while the cheapest in NSW is 164.9. That's a spread of nearly 181 cents a litre depending on where you pull in. Fair dinkum. The difference between filling up at Greenacre's 179.7 and copping 199.9 somewhere lazy is about 20 cents a litre. Chuck 80 litres in the ute and that's sixteen bucks, near enough to a slab, gone for no good reason other than not knowing where to look.
The regions are holding up too
And it's not only the city doing well. Out Hexham way near Newcastle the cheapest diesel is 191.9, and up in the New England, Gunnedah has the tightest pricing I've seen in a while, barely half a cent between every servo in town at around 193.5. Down the mid north coast, Kempsey is holding at 189.5 for the cheapest. Regional NSW usually cops it sweet with dearer prices, so seeing those towns under 195 is a fair result for anyone out that way.
How does NSW stack up around the country
Pretty good, as it turns out. Have a squiz at diesel prices around the country and only Victoria is cheaper on average, parked at 210.0. Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia are all sitting above us, between 213 and 215 cents. So if you're carting freight or just doing the daily run in a diesel, NSW is one of the better places to be filling up right now.
So when do you fill the tank
This is where a lot of people get caught out. Diesel doesn't bounce around on the same weekly cycle as unleaded, but it still pays to fill before these drops drift back up. When a state average falls 8 cents in a night like this, the cheap servos move first and the rest follow over the next few days, then the whole lot creeps back up again. Have a look at the best time to fill up and plan your run around it rather than filling on empty in a panic.
For the petrol crowd, same rules apply. Watch the cycle and don't fill at the top of it. But today belongs to the diesel drivers, and around Western Sydney we're doing alright for once.
Look, end of the day, a tank of diesel at Greenacre prices versus the dear end of town is the difference between a quiet weekend and dipping into the savings. A bit of planning, a quick check before you head out, and that's more cash staying in your pocket for the stuff that actually matters. Can't argue with that.
