Maitland Unleaded Spans 32 Cents as Rutherford Servos Climb Up to 21 in Two Weeks

Right, so if you live in Maitland or drive through it on the way to work, have a squiz at this before your next fill. Unleaded across town now runs from 221.5 to 253.9 cents a litre, and the dear end of that range is all in Rutherford. Two weeks ago Rutherford's servos sat in the middle of the Maitland pack. Today they've got the three highest prices in town.

These are the prices lodged with the NSW government's FuelCheck scheme as at 12:00pm AEDT on Tuesday 13th Oct 2026.

The cheap end

Three servos are on 221.5 for unleaded: United Maitland on Les Darcy Drive, United East Maitland on Newcastle Road, and the unmanned U Go East Maitland on the corner of Newcastle and William Streets. U Go has sat on 221.5 every day since 3 Oct. The two United sites have had a few short hops up to 224.5 and 228.9, but each time they've dropped back to 221.5 within a day or two.

Both United sites also have E10 at 219.5, which is the cheapest E10 around Maitland. If your car takes it, check the E10 prices page before you fill.

Just behind them, United and Pearl Energy in Metford are both on 228.5, and EG Ampol Green Hills at the Stockland centre is on 229.9.

Rutherford went the other way

Now head west along the New England Highway. On 30 Sep, 7 Eleven Rutherford, BP Rutherford and Ampol Foodary Rutherford West were all on 232.9. Today the 7 Eleven is on 253.9, up 21 cents. BP is on 251.9, up 19, and Ampol Foodary Rutherford West is on 249.9, up 17. Nearby, Ampol Foodary Rutherford has gone from 233.9 to 244.9 and Access Fuels Rutherford from 231.5 to 240.5.

So every Rutherford servo has climbed. Fair dinkum, 7 Eleven Rutherford is now dearer than all 86 servos in Newcastle and Lake Macquarie, and it's only 5 kilometres from United Maitland. On a 50 litre tank, the 32.4 cent gap between those two is $16.20. That's three coffees, near enough, for a short drive down the highway.

Same sign, different price

Here's the thing, right. Every 7 Eleven we checked across the Hunter lifted between noon Monday and noon today. The eight sites around Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and Heatherbrae all went up exactly 4 cents, and so did Rutherford. The other Maitland sites went further: East Maitland up 10 to 231.5, Metford up 9 to 239.9, and Thornton up 7 to 239.9.

Even after that, 7 Eleven East Maitland is 22.4 cents cheaper than 7 Eleven Rutherford, 7 kilometres away, for the same fuel under the same sign. On 30 Sep the gap between those two was 14.4 cents. If you're a regular at the 7 Eleven fuel in Rutherford, you're leaving $11.20 on the table every time you fill a 50 litre tank.

EG Ampol does a smaller version of the same thing. Green Hills is on 229.9, while EG Ampol Maitland on Denman Street is on 244.9. That's 15 cents dearer, and it's only 1.3 kilometres from United Maitland at 221.5.

Not everyone held

Medco Maitland on High Street went from 221.5 to 229.5 across Monday and today. A bit further up the pack, Metro East Maitland has been on 229.5 since 9 Oct and Telarah Fuels on 237.9 since 8 Oct. That leaves just three servos in the 221.5 camp, and they're the ones to keep an eye on over the next few days.

How Maitland stacks up against the coast

Across 86 servos in Newcastle and Lake Macquarie, the middle unleaded price today is 244.9, and the cheapest is 233.9 at Arko Energy Fennell Bay. That puts Maitland's three cheapest 12.4 cents under anything on the coast. If you work in Maitland and live in Newcastle, you'd be mad not to fill up before you head home. Our unleaded petrol prices page shows how these numbers move.

Where to fill up

If you're in Rutherford, Telarah or Bolwarra Heights, it's a short run into Maitland or East Maitland, and the saving's worth it. 7 Eleven has lifted right across the Hunter today, and nobody can say whether the cheap three will follow, so if you're due for a fill, I wouldn't leave it too long. Our best time to fill up guide explains how price cycles tend to play out.

Look, end of the day, that's $16 back on a tank for a few extra minutes in the car. Can't argue with that.
