WA Diesel Drops 10.5 Cents While East Coast Climbs—What's Going On?

Righto mates, filled up the work ute this morning and had to do a double-take at the bowser. Diesel prices are all over the shop this week, and if your not keeping an eye on where you fill up, your gonna cop a hiding at the pump.

The Big Story: WA Diesel Takes a Dive

Western Australia's diesel drivers are definitley the winners today. Average diesel prices dropped a massive 10.5 cents overnight, falling from 197.9c down to 187.4c. That's a 5.3% drop, which is bloody huge when you think about it. If you're filling a 100-litre ute tank like mine, that's ten bucks you're saving. Not too shabby!

The spread across WA servos is interesting too—cheapest I'm seeing is 167.3c (probably out in the sticks somewhere), while some city servos are still trying thier luck at 238.9c. Shop around, people.

East Coast: Mixed Bag

Meanwhile, over on the east coast, it's a different story:

And here's something new—we've now got Tasmania in the system! Average diesel sitting at 188.5c across 41 servos. Welcome to the party, Tassie!

Where to Find the Cheapest Diesel

If you're chasing bargains, these suburbs are where it's at:

Top 5 Cheapest for Diesel:

  1. Ballarat, VIC - 165.2c (absolute steal!)
  2. Greenacre, NSW - 166.5c (my neck of the woods!)
  3. Truganina, VIC - 166.7c
  4. Ascot, WA - 167.7c
  5. Moe, VIC - 168.5c
  6. Greenacre's been a go-to for me for years, and it's still delivering. If you're in Western Sydney and driving past there anyway, chuck $20 in and you'll thank me later.

    The Ballarat Phenomenon

Speaking of Ballarat—what the hell is going on down there? Premium 98 dropped 34.1 cents overnight (from 222.3c to 188.2c), and regular unleaded fell 32.7 cents. That's not a typo. Someone down there is having a price war and I'm here for it.

    Practical Advice from the Tradie

    Look, I drive alot for work—reckon I do 300-400km a week around Sydney. Here's what I've learned:

    1. Check Before You Pull In

Use Petrolmate (obviously), and dont just rock up to the nearest servo. Two streets over could save you 20 cents a litre.

    2. Fill Up When Prices Drop

WA drivers—now's the time. That 10.5c drop won't last forever. Get in while the getting's good.

    3. Avoid Peak Hour Servos

Those servos right next to motorways during peak hour? They know you're desperate. They're charging 10-20 cents more than the same brand two suburbs away.

    4. Regional Can Be Cheaper

Notice how Ballarat, Moe, and Ascot are all on that cheapest list? Sometimes you dont have to be in the city to get a good deal.

    The Bottom Line

If you're in WA and driving diesel, you should of filled up yesterday when it was expensive because today's your lucky day. Everyone else—shop around, use the app, and dont just pull into the first servo you see.

And if you're in Ballarat and haven't filled up yet, what are you waiting for? Those prices are insane.

That's it from me. Stay safe on the roads, and remember—every cent counts when you're filling up once or twice a week like I am.

    Catch ya later,

    Davo
