Western Sydney Servos Lead the Way as NSW Diesel Eases Back Below 165
Right, so if you drive a diesel and you've been copping it at the pump lately, I reckon you'll wanna hear this. As of the 8th July 2026 around 2:04pm AEST, NSW diesel has eased right back, with the statewide average sitting at 192.4 cents. That's down a solid 23 cents on yesterday, which is one of the bigger overnight moves we've seen in a while. And wouldn't you know it, my own backyard out in Western Sydney is doing a lot of the heavy lifting.
Here's the thing, right. The state average is one number, but the average never fills your tank. What fills your tank is the servo you actually pull into, and out west there are a few doing the right thing by locals at the moment.
Yagoona and Greenacre setting the pace
Top of my list this arvo is Yagoona, where the cheapest diesel has dropped to 162.9 cents. Fair dinkum, that is the sort of number that makes you wanna do a lap of the block just to double check you read the board right. Just down the road, Greenacre has diesel from 166.7 cents, so if you're anywhere around Bankstown way you've got two genuine options within a few minutes of each other.
Keep heading through the west and it stays competitive. Smithfield and Fairfield are both holding around the 177.5 to 179.5 mark, and Granville is sitting right on 179.5 too. None of those are as sharp as Yagoona, but they're still comfortably under the state average, which is the whole point.
Now, you'd be mad not to do the sums here. The difference between filling up at Yagoona on 162.9 and paying the state average of about 192 is nearly 30 cents a litre. On a 70 litre ute tank that's north of 20 bucks. That's a decent counter feed and a coffee, or a slab if you've been good. Same fuel, same week, just a smarter servo.
The regions are getting a look in too
It's not just the city doing well either. Out in the Riverina, East Wagga Wagga is one of the cheapest spots in the whole state at 164.5 cents, which is a cracking result for a regional town where you'd normally expect to cop a bit more. Down the Hume a fair way, Lavington near the border has diesel from 167.9, so the Albury crowd are getting a fair go this week as well.
Up the coast, Kempsey is showing 174.9 at the sharp end and Mayfield over in Newcastle is around 177.5. Even Cessnock out in the Hunter is sitting on 179.5. So this isn't one lonely servo dropping its pants on price, it's a proper statewide easing, which is the good kind of story.
What I reckon you should do
The diesel cycle doesn't work quite like the petrol one, so I won't pretend there's a magic day to fill up. But when the average takes a 23 cent dive like this, the smart move is simple. Fill up now while it's low, and top up before it creeps back, because it always does. If you wanna see how your suburb stacks up over the last week or two, the diesel prices page is worth a squiz, and the price trends tool will show you which way the wind's blowing before you commit.
A quick word to my Sydney mates. Don't just roll into the servo on the corner out of habit. A two minute check before you leave the house can be the difference between 162 and 190, and that adds up fast over a year of driving.
Look, end of the day, the numbers are on your side this week if you're running a diesel in NSW. Western Sydney's leading the charge, regional towns are chipping in, and a bit of planning means more cash stays in your pocket for the important stuff. Can't argue with that.
