Gold Coast Petrol Falls 20 Cents as Ashmore and Robina Lead Queensland Into a New Discount Phase

The number that caught my eye this morning is 20.7 cents. That is how far unleaded petrol in Ashmore has fallen in under a week, from 186.6 down to 165.9, an 11.1 percent decrease. And it is not an isolated reading. As of 8:09am AEST on 22nd July 2026, the same pattern is repeating right across the Gold Coast, which tells me the region's discount phase has well and truly arrived.

The data across three Gold Coast suburbs

Look at the largest movers in the country over recent days and Gold Coast postcodes dominate the decrease column:

To me the consistency is the telling part. Every grade in Ashmore fell by almost exactly the same amount, and that is the classic signature of a price cycle turning rather than one servo running a weekend special. When a single station discounts, you see a scattered spread. When the cycle turns, everything steps down together, and that is exactly what the data shows here.

Coomera is lagging its southern neighbours by around 7 cents on E10, though, at 170.7 against 163.2 in Robina. For motorists on the northern end of the M1, the cheaper price boards are currently a few exits south.

E10 is the value pick this week

For the roughly one in five Australian motorists who run on ethanol blend, the Gold Coast numbers are particularly good. E10 in Ashmore at 163.3 sits 2.6 cents under regular unleaded, the cheapest petrol reading in our Gold Coast data this week. Comparing current E10 prices against unleaded petrol prices before you leave home takes thirty seconds, and right now the gap between suburbs is bigger than the gap between grades.

Premium buyers get some relief too. Premium 98 in Robina at 190.8 and Ashmore at 190.3 is back under the 191 mark after sitting above 209 last week.

Diesel is quietly heading the other way

While petrol slides on the coast, diesel across Queensland edged up 2.1 cents to a state average of 217.9 across more than 1,000 stations. The sharpest regional move came from Toowoomba, where diesel lifted 14.7 cents to 213.6.

The state average still sits in the middle of the national table, below Victoria's 220.2 and Western Australia's 221.5, though Tasmania at 215.2 remains the cheapest market in the country. Diesel drivers heading west out of Brisbane can still find prices under 200: Gatton has diesel from 193.6, the cheapest Queensland reading in today's data.

What the numbers mean for your next fill

The arithmetic is straightforward. Filling a 50 litre tank in Ashmore today costs about $10.35 less than it did last week. Discount phases in south east Queensland historically do not linger. Prices step down over a stretch of days, hold briefly, then reset upward quickly once the cycle turns again. When I analysed the market earlier this month, Brisbane's cycle was still climbing while Sydney's fell, and these Gold Coast decreases suggest the wider south east Queensland market has now tipped into its discounting stretch. Three things follow from the data.

  1. If you are on the Gold Coast, this is the week to fill up rather than wait. Prices in the 163 to 166 range sit substantially below where they were a week ago.
  2. E10 drivers get the best value. Ashmore and Robina both have boards around 163.
  3. Diesel drivers should not assume the same discounts apply. Diesel is drifting up statewide, and the stations around Gatton currently offer the best value.

    4. The numbers are clear: Gold Coast motorists who fill up this week rather than next stand to save around ten dollars a tank, and that window will not stay open for long.
