Werribee and Tarneit Unleaded Climbs 9 Cents in Five Nights as Three Independents Sit 11 Cents Under
Every one of the 63 servos with a full week of readings across Werribee, Hoppers Crossing, Tarneit, Truganina, Point Cook and Laverton lifted its unleaded price between Sunday and Friday. The median went from 235.9 to 244.9, a 9 cent climb in five nights.
Three independents, though, finished the week at 233.7. That is 11.2 cents under the median. All figures here come from the official Victoria fuel price data as at 10th Oct 2026 8:00am AEDT.
The week in numbers
On Petrolmate's evening readings for Melbourne's south west, the median unleaded price rose on four of the five nights:
* Sunday 4th Oct: 235.9
* Monday 5th Oct: 239.8
* Tuesday 6th and Wednesday 7th Oct: 241.9
* Thursday 8th Oct: 243.9
* Friday 9th Oct: 244.9
The typical servo lifted 8 cents, and 24 of the 63 lifted 10 cents or more. Today 34 servos are on 244.9 or higher, and the top of the range is 250.9. The 261 servos sampled across the rest of Melbourne have a median of 242.6, which leaves the south west a little over 2 cents above the city as a whole.
I have left two sites out of these figures. EG Ampol Werribee has had no new reading since Sunday, and Pearl Energy Truganina's earlier readings are inconsistent.
Three servos at 233.7
The cheapest unleaded petrol prices in the area belong to three independents, all on exactly 233.7:
* Metro Petroleum Truganina, 211 Leakes Road
* Oom Energy Tarneit, 409 Derrimut Road
* APCO Hoppers Crossing, 178 Morris Road
All three were on 229.3 last Sunday, so their 4.4 cent lift is roughly half the area's median rise.
Several of their near neighbours have pulled away. Metro Tarneit at 410 Derrimut Road is 76 metres from Oom Energy, and on Monday the two were 1.9 cents apart. Metro Tarneit lifted to 239.9 on Thursday, and by Friday the gap was 6.2 cents. That also puts it 6.2 cents above Metro's own Truganina site.
In Truganina, Liberty on Leakes Road held 233.7 until Thursday, then lifted 16.2 cents in a single night to 249.9. It is about 670 metres from Metro Petroleum, which is still on 233.7. United Truganina and United Laverton North also left 233.7 on Friday, moving to 239.5.
Same lift, different starting points
The Shell boards are the ones that caught my eye. All nine Shell Reddy Express sites in the area lifted by exactly 6.8 cents on the same nights: 3 cents on Monday, 2 on Tuesday and 2 on Wednesday, then a tenth of a cent off on Thursday and again on Friday. Yet these Shell stations still sit on different tiers, from 238.7 at Hoppers Crossing, Laverton and Tarneit to 245.6 at Sanctuary Lakes in Point Cook.
The 19 7 Eleven fuel sites vary even more, from 235.9 in Truganina to 249.9 on Alfred Road in Werribee and at Tarneit and Tarneit West. That is a 14 cent spread inside one brand, in one corner of Melbourne.
What it means at the bowser
This week, which servo you choose matters more than when you fill up. On a 60 litre tank:
* 233.7 against the 244.9 median saves $6.72
* 233.7 against the 250.9 top of the range saves $10.32
On E10 prices, 15 of the 23 local sites that sell it are exactly 2 cents under their own unleaded, and 7 are 4 cents under, so E10 drivers can widen those savings a little.
Closer to the city, the Metro sites in Sunshine and Braybrook are on 231.9. Leaving aside members only Costco, that is the lowest unleaded among the 152 western suburbs servos sampled.
Liberty Truganina's 16 cent overnight move shows the cheapest price in a suburb can change in one evening, so check before you drive. Don't assume the brand sets the price, either. Shell and 7 Eleven both charge different amounts at different sites in the same suburbs. The price trends page shows the weekly picture, and the savings calculator shows what a regular fill at a cheaper servo adds up to over a year.
The numbers are clear: in Melbourne's south west this week, the 11.2 cent gap between the cheapest servos and the median was larger than the 9 cent rise itself.
