Rockhampton Unleaded Splits Into Two Camps 10 Cents Apart as Gladstone's Cheapest Servos Lift 9 Cents
Of the 27 servos selling unleaded within 15 km of central Rockhampton, 11 are priced between 238.5 and 239.9 cents a litre and 14 are between 247.9 and 252.9. The other two are on 241.9. This is not a passing blip. Measured across the same servos, the gap between the two groups has stayed between 10.4 and 15.4 cents every day since 14th Sep 2026.
All prices here come from Queensland's official fuel price reporting scheme, as at 8:15am AEDT on Monday 12th Oct 2026 (7:15am in Queensland).
Who sits in each camp
The cheaper camp is mostly independents and smaller networks:
- Liberty Rockhampton on Gladstone Rd at 238.5, the cheapest in the city
- Boost Lakes Creek at 238.9
- United Rockhampton and United South Rockhampton at 239.3
- Mobil Berserker, Metro Petroleum on Kent St, Boost Aquatic Place, 7 Eleven Rockhampton Central and Mobil Gracemere at 239.5
- BP Gracemere and the Parkhurst Motel and Van Park at 239.9
The dearer camp has all three Shell Reddy Express sites (250.9 to 252.9), four Caltex sites (249.9 to 252.9), both EG Ampol sites (249.9), three Ampol sites (249.9 to 252.9) and BP at Glenmore Road and North Rockhampton (247.9).
The cheaper camp's median is 239.5 and the dearer camp's is 249.9, a gap of 10.4 cents. BP is the only brand with a site in both.
The gap shows up a few hundred metres apart
The split is easiest to see where the two camps are neighbours:
- Caltex Park Avenue at 343 Yaamba Rd charges 252.9. The 7 Eleven at 369 Yaamba Rd, 314 metres away, charges 239.5, which is 13.4 cents less.
- Liberty at 49 Gladstone Rd asks 238.5, while Shell Reddy Express at number 142, about 630 metres away, asks 250.9. That is a 12.4 cent difference.
- In Berserker, Mobil on Queen Elizabeth Dr (239.5) and Caltex Berserker on Edwin St (249.9) are about 200 metres apart.
- In Gracemere, Mobil and BP on Lawrie St (239.5 and 239.9) are about 700 metres from Ampol Foodary Gracemere on McLaughlin St (249.9).
On a 60 litre tank, the 12.4 cent gap on Gladstone Rd is worth $7.44 a fill.
How the split formed
Both camps lifted sharply in mid September. Between 14th and 17th Sep, the cheaper group's median rose from 221.5 to 235.9 and the dearer group's went from 233.9 to 248.4.
Since then, each camp has settled at its own level. The cheaper camp has added just 3 cents in more than three weeks, from 236.5 on 19th Sep to 239.5 now. The board at 7 Eleven Rockhampton Central has read 239.5 since 23rd Sep, and the dearer camp's median has held at 249.9 since 25th Sep.
The pair that caught my eye is Mobil Berserker and Metro Petroleum on Kent St. Three times they lodged identical prices on the same evening: 229.5 on 15th Sep, 236.5 on 17th Sep and 239.5 on 7th Oct.
One servo did switch sides. BP Glenmore Road sat at 235.9 from mid September, then lifted 12 cents to 247.9 on the evening of 5th Oct.
E10 follows unleaded to the cent
At all 11 Rockhampton servos listing both fuels, E10 is exactly 2 cents under unleaded. The cheapest E10 is 237.3 at both United sites, so E10 drivers face the same split.
Gladstone has moved the other way
About 100 km to the south east in Gladstone, the four lowest priced servos (United Gladstone North, United South Gladstone, Oom Energy South Gladstone and Shell West Gladstone) were all on 233.5 on 30th Sep. That was roughly 5 cents under Rockhampton's cheap camp. They moved to 237.5 on 6th Oct and 242.5 by 8th Oct, a 9 cent lift in just over a week. Across all 13 Gladstone servos, the median went from 235.9 on 1st Oct to 246.5 today.
Gladstone's cheapest unleaded now sits 3 to 4 cents above Rockhampton's, the reverse of the position on 30th Sep.
On the coast, Yeppoon's five servos have climbed from a median of 235.9 in late September to 245.9.
What it means for motorists
The cheaper camp stretches from Lakes Creek to Gracemere, so most Rockhampton motorists have one within a short drive. On Yaamba Rd and Gladstone Rd, and in Berserker and Gracemere, the cheaper option is within about 700 metres of a dearer one.
Gladstone no longer has a price edge. If you are driving between the two cities right now, the cheaper fill is in Rockhampton.

The numbers are clear: for four weeks running, the sign above the bowser has been a better guide to Rockhampton unleaded prices than the suburb it sits in.
