Warwick Diesel Lifts 8.3 Cents as Inland Queensland Loses Its Edge Over Brisbane's Southside
The five mainland states sit within 2.6 cents of each other on diesel this afternoon. Victoria averages 255.7, NSW 256.0, Queensland 257.3, Western Australia 257.9 and South Australia 258.3. That is about as compressed as the national picture gets, so the real variation is town by town, and inland Queensland gave the clearest example of it today.
As of 8th Sep 2026 2:08pm AEST, three inland Queensland towns recorded some of the largest diesel increases in the country over 24 hours, while a fourth eased. Over the same period, a cluster of suburbs on the southside of Brisbane held a tight formation. Between the two, the price advantage changed hands.
The inland lift
Warwick led the way up:
- Warwick diesel rose 8.3 cents, from 242.5 to 250.8 across six servos
- Chinchilla rose 7.1 cents, from 249.5 to 256.6 across five servos
- Servos listed under Toowoomba Regional rose 6.7 cents, from 245.3 to 252.0 across five sites
- St George went the other way, easing 7.9 cents from 279.9 to 272.0 across six servos
Where these towns sat before the move matters as much as the move itself. Yesterday, Warwick at 242.5 was one of the cheapest places to buy diesel in Queensland, 12.8 cents under the state average at the time. Today it sits 6.5 cents under. Toowoomba Regional has gone from 10.0 cents below the state average to 5.3 below. Chinchilla was 5.8 cents under yesterday and is now within 0.7 of the state figure.
Warwick's lift works out to 3.4 per cent in a day. Statewide, Queensland diesel rose 2.0 cents, or 0.78 per cent, to 257.3 across 1,043 stations. The inland moves were three to four times the size of the statewide change, which reads to me like towns catching up to a cycle that had already passed through the rest of the state instead of leading a new one.
St George remains the outlier
The 7.9 cent fall in St George is welcome for locals, but it needs context. At 272.0, the town still sits 14.7 cents above the Queensland average and 21.2 cents above Warwick, even after Warwick's increase. That is the usual pattern for remote inland servos. Prices come down more slowly than they go up, because freight costs and lower volumes are built into every litre.
Brisbane's southside holds steady
While the inland towns moved, three suburbs on the southside and the Gold Coast corridor stayed tightly priced. Acacia Ridge has four servos averaging 244.5, ranging from 243.5 to 245.5, a spread of just 2.0 cents. Pimpama has three servos averaging 244.8, with the cheapest at 239.9. Beenleigh has three averaging 245.6, with the cheapest at 242.5.
A 2.0 cent spread across four servos makes Acacia Ridge the most competitive cluster in the Queensland data today. When every site in a suburb prices within two cents of every other, there is no wrong choice, and that is rare for diesel.
Set Warwick against it and the shift is plain. Warwick's price 24 hours ago, 242.5, was 2.0 cents under where Acacia Ridge sits today. Warwick's price now is 6.3 cents over it. On an 80 litre ute tank, that is a swing of $6.64 in a single day, from saving $1.60 to paying an extra $5.04.
The Caboolture context
Queensland unleaded is a separate story, but it is moving the same way. Caboolture unleaded has lifted 10.0 cents to 210.6 across seven servos, and premium 98 there rose 8.1 cents to 233.5. Diesel and petrol moving together in both the outer north of Brisbane and the inland towns points to a broad pricing cycle rather than a handful of local decisions.
What the numbers mean for your next fill
If you are travelling through Warwick or Toowoomba, do not assume the inland discount still applies. The gap to Brisbane has closed to a few cents, so check current diesel prices before you commit.
Southside Brisbane is the safe fill. Every Acacia Ridge servo is within two cents of the others, and the cheapest site in Pimpama at 239.9 is the lowest diesel price across the three suburbs.
St George drivers should watch the trend. A 7.9 cent fall is substantial, and if the easing continues the town could pull back toward the 260s. The price trends page tracks this by suburb.
Statistically speaking, everything in today's Queensland data is converging. The state averages have closed up nationally, and the inland towns have closed up on Brisbane. The numbers are clear: the cheapest diesel in the state is no longer a regional secret. It is sitting in the suburbs where four servos price within two cents of each other.
