Wagga Wagga and Griffith Split by 15 Cents on Premium 95 as Riverina Prices Move in Opposite Directions
Two Riverina towns around 180 kilometres apart went opposite ways on premium 95 in a single day, and they now sit 15.0 cents apart.
As of 12th Sep 2026 8:03am AEST, premium 95 in Wagga Wagga eased 9.1 cents to average 219.8 across seven servos. In Griffith, the same fuel lifted 10.3 cents to 234.8 across five servos. A day earlier, Griffith was the cheaper of the two by 4.4 cents, so the position between the towns has swung 19.4 cents in 24 hours.
Two towns, two directions
Side by side, the moves look like this:
- Wagga Wagga premium 95 fell 9.1 cents, from 228.9 to 219.8
- Griffith premium 95 rose 10.3 cents, from 224.5 to 234.8
- Griffith premium diesel rose 8.1 cents, from 258.2 to 266.3
When two fuels lift at once in the same town, it reads to me like a repricing across Griffith rather than one servo changing its board. Wagga Wagga, meanwhile, now has premium 95 sitting 28.6 cents below its own diesel average of 248.4.
On a 60 litre tank of premium 95, today's 15.0 cent gap between the towns is worth $9.00 per fill. If you drive between them regularly for work, plan your fills around the Wagga Wagga end of the trip while the gap holds.
NSW diesel holds steady across 1,181 servos
While the Riverina premium market moved, NSW diesel barely shifted. The state average eased just 0.4 cents to 260.8, and the cheapest diesel servo in the state sits at 219.5. That is lower than the cheapest servo in Victoria, Queensland, South Australia or Western Australia.
The range tells you more than the average does. NSW diesel runs from 219.5 to 332.0, a gap of 112.5 cents, and the suburb figures vary a good deal:
- Bomaderry: cheapest 235.5, average 247.8 across four servos, a spread of 26.4 cents
- Wagga Wagga: cheapest 243.5, average 248.4 across five servos
- Granville: three servos between 247.5 and 249.5, averaging 248.8
- Oberon: cheapest 239.9, average 250.2 across four servos
- Cessnock: cheapest 244.5, average 250.8, top price 262.9
- Fairfield: average 251.0, ranging from 249.5 to 254.9
- Gunnedah: average 251.1, ranging from 249.5 to 252.9
Bomaderry, Wagga Wagga and Oberon are all regional towns, yet they match or beat Sydney suburbs like Granville and Fairfield on average diesel price. Bomaderry on the South Coast has the lowest suburb average in the state at 247.8, a full 13.0 cents below the NSW average.
Granville is the reverse of Bomaderry. All three servos there price within 2.0 cents of each other, so there is very little to gain by shopping around, and convenience can reasonably win out.
Across the border in Canberra
The ACT recorded one of the larger diesel movements this morning, easing 3.4 cents to 274.5. Even so, the Territory average remains 13.7 cents above the NSW figure. Canberra diesel sits in a tight band from 257.9 to 279.9, so the savings on offer locally are modest next to the wider NSW market.
What the numbers mean for your next fill
Statistically speaking, the biggest savings this weekend come from choosing the right servo in your own suburb rather than waiting for statewide averages to shift.
Riverina premium drivers should look to Wagga Wagga, which is currently 15.0 cents cheaper than Griffith on premium 95.
In Bomaderry, the 26.4 cent spread between the cheapest and dearest diesel servo is worth $15.84 on a 60 litre fill, so a quick check before you pull in pays off.
In Sydney's west, Granville prices are tightly grouped, and filling up at the nearest servo costs you very little.
