Canberra Shell Sites Split 8 Cents Apart as Fyshwick and Manuka Hold 239.8

Canberra's Shell Reddy Express network is running two prices for unleaded, and the gap deserves closer scrutiny. Official NSW FuelCheck prices, which also cover the ACT, show three Shell Reddy Express servos in Fyshwick and Manuka on 239.8 at the 12:00pm AEDT sync on 23rd Oct 2026. The other 12 sites in the territory are on 247.8, and the two groups have now been exactly 8 cents apart for nine days running.

One brand, two prices

All 15 Shell Reddy Express sites in Canberra were on 247.9 on 14 October. By the 6am update on 15 October, three had cut to 239.9: Fyshwick Capital on Newcastle Street, the Wiluna Street site in Fyshwick, and Shell Reddy Express Manuka on Canberra Avenue. The other twelve stayed put.

This morning all 15 sites came down by exactly 0.1 cents in the same update, the three cheaper sites to 239.8 and the rest to 247.8. Prices that move in lockstep like that point to a set price tier, because sites that were simply slow to update would not all change at once.

Distance does not explain it either. Shell Reddy Express Deakin on Hopetoun Circuit is about 2.5 kilometres from Manuka and charges 247.8. On a 60 litre fill, that is $4.80 more for the same brand of fuel. E10 prices follow the same pattern: 237.8 at Manuka against 245.8 at Deakin, Curtin and Belconnen.

Fyshwick is where the competition is

Shell did not move alone. The Fyshwick and airport cluster has been edging down for more than a week. Metro Fyshwick on Whyalla Street cut to 239.9 in the same 6am update on 15 October, then to 237.9 on 21 October, and Metro on Barrier Street is also on 237.9. EG Ampol Canberra Airport cut from 247.9 to 239.9 at noon on 15 October and is on 238.9 today, while Ampol Foodary at Canberra Airport has sat between 238.9 and 239.9 since 16 October. BP Fyshwick on Ipswich Street joined in on 21 October, cutting from 247.9 to 239.9.

Of the nine Canberra servos under 240 cents today, eight are in Fyshwick, Manuka or the airport precinct.

The holdout on Canberra Avenue

The exception is Ampol Fyshwick at 289 Canberra Avenue, which has listed unleaded at 249.9 on every update since at least 10 October. Both Metro sites are about 600 metres away at 237.9, BP Fyshwick is 800 metres away at 239.9, and Shell Fyshwick Capital is about a kilometre away at 239.8. A 12 cent premium over neighbours that close is worth investigating, and anyone who fills up there is paying it with cheaper unleaded only a few streets away.

The rest of the city sits still

Outside that pocket, Canberra has barely moved. The median unleaded price across 55 ACT servos was 247.9 on every day from 8 to 22 October, and it is 247.7 today. Thirty nine of those 55 are on 245.9 or more.

The Woden sites that held out at 241.9 earlier this month are now among them. 7 Eleven Mawson and Phillip, along with EG Ampol Mawson, moved up on the morning of 17 October, and all three sit on 247.9 today.

The north has one fresh sign of movement. At noon today BP Nicholls on Gold Creek Road cut to 239.9 from 251.9, where it had sat since at least 10 October. Ampol Foodary Nicholls, about 660 metres away, cut 2 cents to 245.9 in the same update. I will be watching over the weekend to see whether other servos in Gungahlin and Belconnen follow.

Queanbeyan keeps undercutting

Over the border, the median across 14 NSW servos in Queanbeyan, Jerrabomberra, Googong, Bungendore and Sutton eased from 241.3 on 14 October to 237.7 today. That leaves it 10 cents under Canberra's. BP Queanbeyan cut 8 cents to 236.9 on 20 October, and Metro and Mobil in Crestwood are both on 234.9.

What this means for motorists

Even within one brand, what you pay in Canberra this week depends on which servo you pick. Across most of the city, unleaded petrol prices are sitting near 248 cents, while drivers passing through Fyshwick, Manuka or the airport can pay 238 to 240 cents today. If you want to see whether the north follows BP Nicholls down, check the price trends page or the interactive fuel map before filling up.

Armed with this information, Canberra motorists can avoid paying 8 cents a litre more for the same Shell unleaded by filling up at Fyshwick or Manuka.
