Wanneroo Unleaded Spans 10 Cents in One Suburb as Perth's Cheapest Tuesday Keeps Climbing
The official FuelWatch figures pulled at 6:15am AWST on Sunday 27th Sep 2026 put unleaded in Wanneroo anywhere between 223.9 and 233.9 cents a litre, without leaving the suburb. Behind that 10 cent gap, the brand on the canopy matters more than the postcode. The same figures show the cheap end of Perth's weekly cycle sitting higher than it was a fortnight ago.
Six servos, one suburb, a 10 cent spread
Wanneroo's six unleaded sites fall into two groups. Atlas Fuel Wanneroo is the cheapest at 223.9, followed by Vibe at 224.7 and Metro at 227.2. 7 Eleven Wanneroo South sits at 229.9. At the top are Liberty Tapping at 233.5 and Shell Reddy Express Pearsall at 233.9.
On a 60 litre tank, the difference between the cheapest and dearest is $6. That is not a fortune, but it adds up for anyone who always fills at the same site.
The majors price by brand, not by suburb
Digging deeper into the numbers across the northern corridor turns up a pattern that local costs struggle to explain. Every Ampol Foodary, EG Ampol and most BP sites from Joondalup to Banksia Grove show exactly 229.9. Every Caltex, including those at Edgewater and Wangara, shows 231.9. The 7 Eleven and Shell Reddy Express sites mostly sit at 233.9, and some reach 234.9 or 235.9, such as BP Beldon and Reddy Express Banksia Grove.
The same tiers show up south of the river. In Kwinana Beach, Ampol Foodary Kwinana is at 221.9 and Shell Reddy Express Kwinana Beach is at 233.9, a 12 cent gap within one suburb. Head east to Perth Airport and Costco has the lowest price in our metro sample at 216.7, although you need a membership to use it.
Perth may be cheaper than the east, but the spread inside a single suburb here is often larger than the gap between suburbs.
Wednesday and Tuesday tell different stories
The daily history shows the major brands do not simply sit above the independents. The gap between them moves with the weekly cycle.
On Wednesday 23rd Sep, reset day, Caltex Joondalup lifted to 249.9 and Ampol Foodary Joondalup to 247.9. Atlas Wanneroo was 225.9 that day, so the gap was 24 cents. On Tuesday 22nd Sep, the day before, the order was reversed. Ampol Foodary Joondalup dropped to 219.9, and so did 7 Eleven Wanneroo South, while Atlas sat at 224.9 and Metro at 225.2. For that one day the majors undercut the independents by around 5 cents.
The majors swing through a range of around 30 cents a week, while the independents move a few cents at a time. Fill up on a Wednesday or Thursday and the independent is almost always the better choice. On a Tuesday, the major across the road may well be cheaper. The floor has moved up
This raises some interesting questions about where the cycle now bottoms out. On Sunday 13th Sep, Atlas Wanneroo was 208.9. Today it is 223.9, up 15 cents. Metro Wanneroo went from 199.2 to 227.2 over the same period, and Liberty Tapping from 207.5 to 233.5. Even Costco at Perth Airport has climbed from 198.7 to 216.7.
Ampol Foodary Joondalup's Tuesday low was 213.9 on 15th Sep and 219.9 on 22nd Sep. The cheap day is still there. It just arrives a little higher each week, and that deserves closer scrutiny. Our price trends page tracks that movement across Western Australia.
What to do this week
