Perth Ampol Servos Flip From 16 Cents Under 7 Eleven to 8 Cents Over in Two Days

This week's turn of the Perth price cycle shows that the cheapest brand on a Tuesday can be one of the dearest by Thursday. Under WA's FuelWatch scheme, every servo lodges the next day's price by 2pm and must hold it for 24 hours from 6am. The Thursday prices FuelWatch published at 2:30pm yesterday are therefore the prices on the boards from 6am today, 22nd Oct 2026, and they show two of the city's biggest brands swapping places.

Tuesday to Thursday, brand by brand

On Tuesday 20th Oct, 59 of Perth's 62 Ampol sites and 21 EG Ampol sites sold unleaded at 213.9. At the same time, 45 of the 49 7 Eleven sites were on 229.9, 16 cents higher. Most BP sites sat at 223.9.

Wednesday brought the usual reset. Ampol and EG Ampol lifted 26 cents to 239.9 at almost every site. BP moved to 239.9 at 55 sites, most of them up 16 cents, and 7 Eleven added 10 cents to land on the same 239.9. The Perth median went from 225.7 to 239.9.

On Thursday the brands split. 7 Eleven is back on 229.9 at 45 of its 49 sites, and 42 of those are on exactly the price they charged on Tuesday. Ampol is on 237.9 at 31 sites and 235.9 at 23, which leaves it 22 to 24 cents above its own Tuesday price. BP eased 4 cents to 235.9. Across the 401 Perth servos that have lodged a Thursday price, the median is 231.9.

Neighbouring servos swap places

Brabham shows the pattern most clearly. EG Ampol Brabham and 7 Eleven Brabham share an address on Marvel Entrance and sit 120 metres apart. On Tuesday the EG Ampol was 16 cents cheaper, at 213.9 against 229.9, and on Wednesday both were on 239.9. Today the EG Ampol is on 237.9 and the 7 Eleven is back on 229.9, 8 cents cheaper.

The same thing happened in Yanchep, where Ampol Foodary Yanchep and 7 Eleven Yanchep are 211 metres apart, and at neighbouring pairs in Clarkson and Ellenbrook. Each pair is on 237.9 against 229.9 today.

On Wanneroo Road, three servos close together have each gone their own way. Ampol Foodary Northlands in Balcatta went 213.9, then 239.9, then 237.9. 7 Eleven Stirling, 224 metres away, barely joined the reset: it went from 228.9 to 229.9 and is on 227.9 today. Petro Fuels Westminster, about 550 metres up the road in Westminster, cut 5 cents to 214.7. That is a 23.2 cent spread across three servos within about 650 metres.

The independents sat it out

All nine Burk sites have held the same price across Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday: 219.3 at eight of them, including Bassendean, Malaga and Mount Lawley, and 221.3 at West Swan. Metro's five sites held 225.2. Solo's three sites in Morley, Riverton and Hamilton Hill cut 4 cents to 223.5 on Wednesday, the same day the majors went up.

Petro Fuels cut for Thursday as well. Five of its Perth sites, in Westminster, Bassendean, Baldivis, Swan View and Seville Grove, are now on 214.7 or 214.8, the cheapest unleaded in Perth today.

Is this week different?

In each of the previous five weeks, 7 Eleven's Thursday median sat between 8 and 27 cents above its Tuesday price. This week the gap is zero. The citywide Wednesday peak was also lower, with a median of 239.9 against 249.9 in each of the two weeks before.

The figures can't tell us why 7 Eleven gave back its rise so quickly while Ampol held most of its own. They do show that one week of prices is not enough to judge a brand. I will be watching next Tuesday's prices to see whether this is the start of a softer cycle or a one week blip. Our 19th Oct look at Burk Alkimos covers how the independents have priced against the majors over the past five weeks.

What it means at the pump

On a 50 litre tank, the 8 cent gap at Brabham is worth $4.00 today. Filling at an Ampol on Tuesday rather than Thursday saved up to $12.00 this week, and a Petro Fuels site at 214.8 is $11.55 cheaper than an Ampol on 237.9. Our guide to the best time to fill up explains the weekly cycle, and the savings calculator runs the sums for your own car.

These prices come from Western Australia's official FuelWatch scheme, which makes tomorrow's price public from 2:30pm every afternoon, so you can compare unleaded petrol prices by brand before you fill up. Armed with this information, Brabham motorists can save 8 cents a litre today by choosing the 7 Eleven over the EG Ampol 120 metres away.
