Queensland Diesel Splits as Bowen Adds 12 Cents and Beaudesert Sits Under 236
Right, so Queensland diesel is doing two different things at once this week, and depending on which end of the state you're at, you're either sitting pretty or copping it. Up north in Bowen, diesel added 11.8 cents overnight. The average across the town's six servos now sits at 250.7 as of 2pm AEST on 7th Aug 2026, and yesterday you'd have paid around 238.9. If you filled up before the jump, good on ya. If you didn't, the same fill now costs about seven bucks more on a 60 litre ute tank. Call it a pie and a coffee at the bakery, gone for nothing.
It's not just diesel copping it up there either. Premium 98 in Bowen climbed 14.8 cents to 236.7. Funny thing is, that still leaves the fancy stuff cheaper than diesel in Bowen right now, which tells you how far the diesel side has moved.
Nerang cops the biggest jump in the state
Down in the Gold Coast hinterland, Nerang wears the biggest move anywhere in Queensland. Premium diesel there added 23.9 cents to hit 240.6 across five servos. On a big tank that works out to more than fourteen dollars compared to earlier in the week. If your diesel runs on the premium stuff and you're out that way anyway, have a squiz at the map before you commit to a full tank.
Brisbane's southside is a different story
Head to the southside of Brisbane and the whole thing flips. Premium diesel in Acacia Ridge has eased 12.1 cents to 246.3, and regular diesel around the industrial end is averaging 239.2. Here's the thing, right. The three servos reporting diesel there are all within a single cent of each other, from 238.9 to 239.9. When servos bunch up that tight, none of them is game to be the dear one, and anyone running a work ute out of the southside gets the benefit of it.
The Scenic Rim and South Burnett are holding steady
Keep driving out to the Scenic Rim and it gets better again. Beaudesert is averaging 235.9 for diesel, and the cheapest of the town's four servos is on 231.9. That cheapest price is nearly 19 cents under Bowen's town average today. Same fuel, same state, fair dinkum.
The South Burnett is holding its own too. Murgon has diesel from 233.9, and the four servos in Kingaroy average 240.8 with barely two cents between the lot of them. Down Drayton way on the edge of Toowoomba you're looking at an average of 238.9. None of these towns will make the news for it, but if you're filling a ute every week, under 240 and holding is exactly what you want.
How Queensland stacks up
Zoom out and Queensland as a whole is averaging 251.6 for diesel today, up a modest 3.1 cents on yesterday. That puts it just behind NSW at 251.0 for the cheapest state average in the country, with Victoria and Tasmania both on 252.7 and WA and SA a touch above that. So Queensland isn't doing badly by national standards. It's just that the state average hides a 15 to 19 cent gap between towns like Beaudesert and towns like Bowen.
What I'd do about it
If you're running freight or towing up the Bruce, fill before you get to Bowen. Simple as that. If you're southside in Brisbane or out through the Scenic Rim, you're already sitting in the best diesel country in the state, so no need to muck around chasing bargains three suburbs over. And check the current diesel prices before any big trip, because Bowen just showed us that 12 cents can turn up overnight without so much as a warning.
