Corio Premium Petrol Drops 17 Cents as Geelong Swings to the Cheap End of the Cycle
Right, so most of us fill up on regular unleaded or E10 and never give the fancy stuff a second look. But here's the thing, right. Premium prices are the canary down the mine for the whole servo board. When the 95 and 98 come down hard in one suburb, you can bet the bloke changing the numbers out the front hasn't stopped at the fancy rows. And that's exactly what's happened in Corio this week.
The Corio numbers
As of Sunday 9th Aug 2026 2pm AEST, premium 95 across six Corio servos is averaging 220.8 cents a litre, down 17.7 cents from 238.5 earlier in the week. Premium 98 has come back 16 cents to 226.9 across seven servos. Nearly 18 cents in a few days isn't a rounding error. Someone has properly reset the board.
If you run something that demands the good juice, a Euro hatch, a turbo ute, whatever, then 17.7 cents on a 60 litre tank is about $10.60 back in your pocket every fill. Call it two coffees and change. Keep that up over a year of fortnightly fills and you're close to $275, just for paying attention.
Geelong's northern suburbs have always been the sharp end of the region for fuel, and Corio sitting this far under where it was earlier in the week backs that up. If you're anywhere between Geelong and the ring road, it's worth the small detour. Have a squiz at premium 95 prices and premium 98 prices across the state before you commit.
What it means for the rest of us on 91
Now, you'd be mad to tune out just because you fill up on 91. Premium and regular move together at the same servo. A station that winds its 95 back by nearly 18 cents hasn't done it out of the goodness of its heart. The discount leg of the cycle has arrived and it wants your business, which usually means the regular unleaded numbers have been wound back too.
The trick is not hanging about. The cheap end of the cycle never lasts long. Diesel is the quiet one this week
While petrol is doing all that, Victoria diesel has barely moved, up half a cent overnight to a statewide average of 252.0 cents. Compare that with Western Australia, which added 15.2 cents in a single day to reach 252.3, or South Australia, which eased 5.4 cents to 253.0. Victoria is the steady one at the moment.
The number that ought to grab you is the spread, though. The cheapest diesel prices in Victoria right now are 189.5 cents and the dearest are 339.9. That's a gap of just over 150 cents inside the same state, and on a 60 litre tank it works out to a $90 difference depending on which servo you roll into. Sure, the extremes are usually a remote roadhouse at one end and a very keen independent at the other. Fair dinkum though, 150 cents. Nobody expects you to drive three hours to save money, but a quick look at the map before a long trip can easily be worth 20 or 30 bucks.
What I'd do about it
I reckon Corio is the story in Victoria this week. Premium down 16 to 18 cents is the clearest sign you'll get that the discounting is on around Geelong, so fill up while it lasts. Check the app before you fill, whether you're after 91, 95 or diesel, and grab the cheap stuff while it's on the board.
