EG Ampol Currimundi Sells Unleaded at 227.9 While Its Caloundra Site 2.7 km Away Holds 243.9
Two EG Ampol servos in the same Sunshine Coast postcode are 16 cents apart on unleaded. EG Ampol Currimundi on Nicklin Way lodged 227.9 at 10:42am AEST today, while EG Ampol Caloundra on Caloundra Road, 2.7 km away, has been on 243.9 since 12:47pm on Wednesday. Both are in the 4551 postcode, and the gap between them is the widest in the data since at least July.
The figures come from Queensland's official fuel price scheme, as read at 1:00pm AEST on Saturday 7th Nov 2026.
How the gap opened
The two sites used to sit close together. On 1st July they were 4 cents apart, with 165.9 in Caloundra and 161.9 in Currimundi, and on 8th Oct both were on 239.9.
Since 12th Oct, EG Ampol Caloundra has changed its unleaded price four times and hasn't gone below 241.9. It went to 246.9 at 5:27am on 29th Oct, the morning 83 Brisbane Ampol servos lifted before dawn, then eased to 245.9 and later to 243.9.
Over the same period, EG Ampol Currimundi changed its price 19 times. It fell from 241.9 to 229.9 by 23rd Oct and went back up to 239.9 after the 29th Oct lift. Since then it has stepped down to 234.9 at 12:22pm on Monday 2nd Nov, 232.9 at 10:37am on Friday 6th Nov, 229.9 at 1:27pm that afternoon and 227.9 at 10:42am today.
EG Ampol Baringa, 4.5 km from the Caloundra site, is also on 243.9. It moved to that price in the same minute as EG Ampol Caloundra on Wednesday.
Two price groups in one postcode
In the 4551 postcode, 11 servos currently list unleaded, and six of them are on 242.9 or 243.9. EG Ampol Caloundra, EG Ampol Baringa and Ampol Caloundra Diesel Stop on Newing Way are all on 243.9. Caltex Caloundra on Bowman Road and Caltex Pelican Waters have been on 243.9 since Wednesday morning, and BP Caloundra has been on 242.9 since 6:21am today.
The other five, EG Ampol Currimundi among them, run from 227.9 to 234.9. Shell Reddy Express Caloundra on Beerburrum Street cut to 227.9 at 9:30am today, before EG Ampol Currimundi reached the same price. 7 Eleven Meridan Plains is on 229.9, Rainbow Fuel on Arthur Street is on 234.5 and 7 Eleven Moffat Beach is on 234.9.
BP Caloundra, 409 metres from EG Ampol Caloundra, is on 242.9, one cent under it. The 7 Eleven in Meridan Plains, 1.6 km from EG Ampol Currimundi, is on 229.9, two cents over it. That is consistent with each site being priced against its nearest rival, though the data doesn't show how EG Ampol sets each site's price.
Brisbane has fallen further than the coast
Unleaded prices are falling throughout south east Queensland this week. Across 465 greater Brisbane servos, the median fell from 238.9 at noon on Monday to 229.9, and 408 of them cut. EG Ampol's 44 Brisbane sites went from a median of 239.9 to 231.4.
On the Sunshine Coast, the median across 71 servos has eased from 240.9 to 236.9. Four servos share the coast's cheapest unleaded at 227.9: EG Ampol Currimundi, Shell Reddy Express Caloundra, U Go Tewantin and 7 Eleven Noosaville. EG Ampol's eight Sunshine Coast sites now range from 227.9 to 243.9, with Caloundra and Baringa at the top.
E10 follows the same split
EG Ampol Currimundi and Shell Reddy Express Caloundra list E10 prices at 225.9, 16 cents under the 241.9 at EG Ampol Caloundra, EG Ampol Baringa, Caltex Caloundra and Caltex Pelican Waters. BP Caloundra is on 240.9.
What it means at the pump
Filling at EG Ampol Currimundi or Shell Reddy Express Caloundra on 227.9 instead of a 243.9 site saves 16 cents a litre, or $9.60 on a 60 litre tank. The savings calculator can run the figures for your own car.
