Yeppoon Unleaded Lifts 9.7 Cents While Dalby and the Toowoomba Region Close a 20 Cent Diesel Gap in a Day
Unleaded across the seven servos in Yeppoon lifted 9.7 cents over the past day to average 227.6 cents a litre, a 4.5 per cent move in a Queensland data set where the state diesel average shifted just 0.1 cents. As of 13th Sep 2026 2:12pm AEST, the headline figures for Queensland have barely moved. Underneath them, towns are swinging 8 to 11 cents in both directions.
Yeppoon's unleaded move
Yeppoon, the Capricorn Coast town about 40 kilometres from Rockhampton, was sitting at 217.9 yesterday. The lift to 227.6 is the largest unleaded move of any Queensland town in today's data.
When I analysed Victorian unleaded on 5th Sep, the state average was 207.1. Yeppoon motorists following unleaded petrol prices and filling a 50 litre tank today pay around $10.25 more than that Victorian benchmark, and $4.85 more than the same tank cost them yesterday.
The diesel average that hides the story
Queensland's diesel average sits at 263.7 across 1,029 stations, down 0.1 cents on yesterday's 263.8. On that measure nothing happened. Town by town, plenty did:
- Dalby: down 9.4 cents to 255.5 across 10 servos
- Ingham: down 9.2 cents to 265.7 across 5 servos
- Mareeba: down 8.2 cents to 265.7 across 8 servos
- Toowoomba region: up 11.1 cents to 255.6 across 5 servos
- Chinchilla: up 7.3 cents to 261.8 across 5 servos
Ingham and Mareeba, more than 200 kilometres apart in the far north, arrived at exactly the same 265.7 from different starting points. Both remain 2.0 cents above the state average.
The Warrego Highway corridor
The clearest case is west of Brisbane. Yesterday the five servos in the Toowoomba region averaged 244.5 for diesel, while Dalby, about 85 kilometres further along the Warrego Highway, sat at 264.9. That was a 20.4 cent gap. Today the two sit at 255.6 and 255.5, 0.1 cents apart, after the Toowoomba region came up 11.1 and Dalby came down 9.4.
Oakey, between the two, is the cheapest Queensland town by average in today's data at 248.4, with its three servos priced from 245.5 to 249.9. Chinchilla, roughly 80 kilometres beyond Dalby, is now 261.8. A motorist heading west from Toowoomba today passes averages of 255.6, 248.4, 255.5 and 261.8 in sequence. Filling at Oakey rather than Chinchilla saves 13.4 cents a litre, or $10.72 on an 80 litre four wheel drive tank.
Where Queensland diesel is cheapest
Away from the corridor, three other pockets stand out for motorists watching diesel prices:
- Nerang on the Gold Coast holds the cheapest single diesel price in the state at 242.9, though its three servos span 18.0 cents up to 260.9.
- Acacia Ridge, which I wrote about on 8th Sep when four servos sat within 2.0 cents of each other at 244.5, now has three servos within 0.4 cents at 249.5 to 249.9. The southside has lifted around 5 cents in five days but remains 14.1 cents under the state average.
- Monkland, on the edge of Gympie, sits at 249.7 to 251.9 across three servos.
Statistically speaking, the tightest clusters are the most predictable. Acacia Ridge, Monkland and Oakey all have spreads under 5 cents, so any servo in town is a reasonable choice. Nerang's 18.0 cent spread is a different proposition.
How Queensland compares
Queensland's 263.7 diesel average now sits 2.2 cents above Victoria at 261.5 and 2.0 cents above NSW at 261.7. That gap closed from the NSW side. NSW was 247.5 yesterday, and a 14.2 cent lift in a single day is why the two states are now close, not anything that happened in Queensland. With Western Australia at 263.2 and South Australia at 264.3, the five mainland states sit within 2.8 cents of each other.
What the numbers mean for your next fill
Yeppoon motorists should compare the seven servos before filling. Unleaded was 217.9 yesterday and 227.6 today, and a 9.7 cent average move will not have landed evenly on every board.
Diesel drivers on the Warrego Highway should plan around Oakey at 248.4 rather than Chinchilla at 261.8.
A flat state average does not mean your town is flat. Check the price trends for your own suburb before assuming yesterday's price still applies.
The numbers are clear: a state average that moves 0.1 cents can sit on top of towns moving 8 to 11 cents. Motorists who check their own suburb rather than the state headline are the ones who find the difference.
