Albury and Lavington Servos Cut Unleaded to 229.2 While Wodonga's Cheapest Holds at 232.9

At 12:00pm AEDT on 31st Oct 2026, four servos across Albury and Lavington list unleaded at exactly 229.2, while the lowest price over the Murray in Wodonga is 232.9. That 3.7 cent gap was just 1.0 cent on Tuesday. On regular diesel, APCO and Pearl Energy sit 11.6 cents apart between the two cities.

All figures here are official prices: the NSW FuelCheck reading at that time, and the latest prices lodged with VIC Fair Fuel, most of them on Friday evening.

The low end fell while the middle rose

Metro Lavington cut 5.2 cents to 229.2 by 6am on Wednesday, and APCO Albury and Pearl Energy Albury cut 2.7 cents to the same price by noon. Ampol Foodary Lavington took a less direct route to become the fourth. It showed 229.2 at 6am on Thursday, jumped to 234.2 by 6:30am, the same morning 113 Sydney Ampol servos lifted 5 cents, and was back on 229.2 by 6am Friday. Roo Petroleum Lavington last lodged the same price on Thursday.

Across 19 servos on the NSW side the median is 240.8, and across 17 on the Victorian side it is 242.9, both up about 2 cents since Tuesday. Shell Reddy Express Albury lifted 2 cents to 240.8, and EG Ampol Albury went from 242.9 to 247.9 on Thursday before easing to 244.9.

Same brand, two sides of the river

The gap depends heavily on the brand you buy from:

Pearl Energy shows how far the gap moves

With sites in both cities, Pearl Energy gives a clean read on how the gap has shifted over a few weeks:

Pearl Energy Wodonga was the cheaper of the pair less than a fortnight ago. My read is that for unleaded petrol prices, a standing habit of crossing the river is unreliable.

Diesel is the steadier saving

Regular diesel prices show a firmer pattern. APCO and Pearl Energy are on 265.3 in Albury and 276.9 in Wodonga, an 11.6 cent gap worth $8.12 on a 70 litre tank, and between those brands it has not dropped below 7.0 cents this month. Metro Lavington also shows 265.3, but that listing is premium diesel.

E10 prices follow unleaded. Pearl Energy, APCO and Metro are on 227.2 on the NSW side, while the lowest in Wodonga is APCO West Wodonga on 230.9.

The state line alone does not explain it

The lowest unleaded in the wider border region sits further into Victoria. Liberty Benalla and Metro Benalla are on 226.5, Liberty Myrtleford is on 227.5, and Shell Bright and Ampol Bright are on 227.9. Mobil Wangaratta is on 231.5. Back on the NSW side, both Holbrook Ampol sites are on 242.9. The price data cannot show why, but the Benalla, Myrtleford and Bright servos sit under Albury's 229.2 while Wodonga sits above it.

What this means for your next fill

In Lavington, Ampol Foodary and Metro are 280 metres apart on Wagga Road at 229.2. Shell Reddy Express Lavington, about 2 km along the same road, is on 240.8, and that 11.6 cent difference is $6.96 on a 60 litre tank.

In Wodonga, Pearl Energy on Lawrence Street at 232.9 is 12.0 cents under 7 Eleven Wodonga Central at 244.9, less than a kilometre away. That is $7.20 on a 60 litre tank.

For diesel, APCO and Pearl Energy in Albury at 265.3 have been 7.0 to 14.8 cents under their Wodonga sites all month.

Before you drive, check the interactive fuel map and run your own tank through the savings calculator.

The numbers are clear: Albury's own unleaded spread runs 16.7 cents, from 229.2 to 245.9, against just 3.7 cents between the two cities' lowest prices, so choosing the right servo is worth more than crossing the river.
