Metro Fyshwick Cuts Unleaded 5 Cents on Weekend Mornings, Then Lifts It Back by 7:30am
One Fyshwick servo has repeated the same price move on all 55 weekend mornings with readings at both 6am and 7:30am since 25th Apr. Metro Petroleum Fyshwick on Barrier Street shows unleaded exactly 5 cents lower at 6am, then back up by 7:30am.
All figures here are official prices from NSW FuelCheck, which also carries ACT prices, as read at 12pm on 2nd Nov 2026. Times are local Canberra time.
24 weekend mornings in a row
On each of the past 24 weekend mornings, back to 15th Aug, the 6am, 6:30am and 7am readings showed the lower price and the 7:30am reading showed it 5 cents higher. That held while the site's 6am price climbed from 189.7 to 232.9. E10 prices and premium diesel at the site moved by the same 5 cents on all 24 mornings. My read is that the change covers the whole site, since one faulty listing would not move all of them together.
Only five weekdays have shown the same move since 25th Apr, and four are Mondays linked to a holiday: 27th Apr after Anzac Day, Reconciliation Day on 1st Jun, the King's Birthday on 8th Jun and Labour Day on 5th Oct. The two June holidays ran later, lifting at 8:30am. The fifth, Tuesday 14th Jul, is an outlier. Sparser readings from October 2025 show the same 5 cent gap on Saturdays.
The last reading before 6am is at noon the previous day, so the data cannot show when the lower price starts. The feed does not list trading hours or give a reason for the cut, so check the board before relying on it.
Across every other NSW and ACT servo, only Metro Petroleum Earlwood in Sydney made the same move on each of the past four weekend mornings.
What 5 cents is worth
At 6:15am on Sunday 1st Nov, 232.9 was the lowest public price in the ACT, with just the members only Costco at Canberra Airport below it on 232.7. The ACT median across 54 servos was 249.8, a gap of 16.9 cents, or $10.14 on a 60 litre tank.
The timing alone is worth $3.00 on 60 litres, and the choice of servo is worth more. At today's 237.9, Metro Petroleum Fyshwick is level with Metro Fyshwick Whyalla and 12.0 cents under Ampol Fyshwick, about 600 metres away on 249.9. That is $7.20 on 60 litres before any weekend cut.
E10 widens the margin. The Barrier Street site lists it at 229.9, or 224.9 on those mornings, which is 8.0 cents under its own unleaded. That gap is exactly 2.0 cents at 32 of the 35 ACT sites listing E10, and the ACT E10 median is 247.8.
Canberra's Ampol lift settled at 2 cents
The rest of Canberra went the other way last week. The ACT median was 247.8 on 28th Oct and has sat on 249.8 since 29th Oct, when most Ampol Foodary and EG Ampol sites lifted 5 cents. All 15 Shell Reddy Express sites added 2 cents by 9:30am, which kept their 8 cent split in place: 241.8 at Fyshwick and Manuka, 249.8 at the other 12.
By noon on 30th Oct, Ampol Foodary had handed back 3 of the 5 cents and its median was on 249.9, much like EG Ampol in Brisbane. Today, 26 of 54 servos sit on 249.8 or 249.9. BP Nicholls cut to 239.9 on 23rd Oct but did not hold it, lifting to 245.9 on 26th Oct and 247.9 on 31st Oct.
Queanbeyan eased at the same time
Over the border, Mobil Queanbeyan, Metro Crestwood, Metro Queanbeyan and Pearl Energy Queanbeyan all reached 229.9 between 28th and 30th Oct. Mobil is 3.8 kilometres from Barrier Street, so even the weekend cut sits 3.0 cents above it. The gap from the ACT median to Queanbeyan's lowest price has widened from 9.0 cents on 19th Oct to 19.9 today.
Mobil, Metro Crestwood and Pearl Energy also list E10 at 223.9 and regular diesel prices at 265.9. The lowest regular diesel in the ACT is BP Fyshwick on 277.9, and the median across 19 ACT sites is 292.9. Metro Petroleum Fyshwick lists premium diesel only.
What this means for your next fill
Before 7am on a weekend, head to Metro Petroleum Fyshwick at 232.9, if the pattern holds and the site is open. On any day, the four Queanbeyan servos at 229.9 are worth $11.94 on a 60 litre tank against the ACT median. Inside the ACT, the two Metro Fyshwick sites are on 237.9.
Before you drive, check unleaded petrol prices and the interactive fuel map, and run your tank through the savings calculator. The best time to fill up guide covers timing.
The numbers are clear: the weekend cut is consistent and worth $3.00 a tank, while choosing the right servo around Fyshwick and Queanbeyan is worth up to $11.94.
