How Petrolmate Works

We aggregate fuel prices from official government sources across Australia to help you find the cheapest petrol in seconds.

We Collect Data

Our automated systems connect to official government channels across all Australian states. We also incorporate community-verified prices for maximum coverage.

2

We Process & Validate

Raw price data goes through our validation pipeline to ensure accuracy. We remove stale prices, flag anomalies, and standardise data across different sources.

Freshness Check

Prices older than 48 hours are automatically flagged and deprioritised. You only see current prices.

Anomaly Detection

Suspiciously high or low prices are verified before display. Obvious errors are filtered out.

Location Matching

Station locations are geocoded and matched across sources to prevent duplicates.

Continuous Updates

Morning and midday syncs ensure data is always fresh. Critical sources checked hourly.

Common Questions

How often are prices updated?

We run full data syncs twice daily (morning and midday). Government APIs typically update prices in real-time as stations report them. Most prices you see are less than 12 hours old.

Are these prices guaranteed accurate?

Prices come directly from official government sources and are as accurate as the source data. Stations are legally required to report accurate prices in most states. However, prices can change rapidly, so always confirm at the pump.

Why is my local station not listed?

We source from official government channels which cover most major retailers. Some independent stations may not participate in government reporting schemes. We're constantly improving our coverage.

Is Petrolmate free to use?

Yes! Petrolmate is completely free. We believe everyone should have access to transparent fuel pricing information to make informed decisions.

How can I report an incorrect price?

Since we source from official government channels, incorrect prices should be reported directly to the relevant state fuel authority. You can also use the "Report" feature on our station pages.
